Jesus Christ didn't come down from heaven to give us fame and fortune. He came to save us from an eternity absent from the presence of God (the Only One True God) and the glory of His power. And to make us Holy.....to save us from the wrath of God that is coming on all those Sons of disobedience. For all have sinned, and far short of the glory of God. And need His righteousness, His perfection. That only comes through faith and trust in His One and Only Son.
I read of a a very successful person, calls himself a monk, even was one for a time, about the 4 things he stresses in getting himself through life and being successful. Thankfulness--Inspiration--Mediation and Exercise. He says they have helped him to get to where he is today as a motivational speaker. God's principles even when practiced by unbelievers can help people succeed. Or to walk the straight and narrow. To even free them of bad habits and addictions. I have known people like that. But the one thing they lack, and it's the most important thing. They had not the Savior. They had not the Christ. They had not eternal life. They simply did not believe.
THANKFULNESS is to God, for all he has done and accomplished for us through His Son. In his correction of us when needed, (Heb. 12: 3-11) and our joy in understanding his care for His people. THANKFULNESS---for his calling us from darkness to light and from death to life. Thankfulness that it is not on account of any good thing we may have done or will ever do but according to His mercy He gave His people new life and a Blessed Hope. The apostle to the gentiles (anyone not born a Jew) Paul, said "be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.(Col. 3:15-17)
INSPIRATION --- A Christians inspiration comes from outside himself. To the One True God that spoke creation out. The Word who was in the beginning with God and Was God. The Word that became flesh. That One True God, by grace through faith and not of ourselves, then comes to live in us through God the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of truth, comforts us and teaches us all things. He will guide you into all truth. Things that matter not only for the now but even more so for eternity. We are in awe of all God has done and is doing.
MEDITATION---A Christian's meditation is not reciting chants and mantras in attempting to free the mind. Our meditation is on God's Word. The Bible. Freeing the mind, so called, is deceptive and dangerous. Emptying your mind and it will be filled with whatever your sinful heart desires. And can allow for deceiving spirits to influence and fool an unwary soul to focus on unhealthy and sinful thoughts. They may seem perfectly legit but could in reality lead to ones disillusionment and destruction. To love the world and all that is in the world. Rather than God. Or to love oneself to the detriment of themselves and others. For the heart, the most inner being of a person, is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who can know it. (Jer. 17:9)
Feelings can fool. And feelings can kill. Feelings can tell you what you want to hear to the point of approving of and accepting what God says separates you from Him. Sin. Meditate on God's Word; study to show yourself approved; As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. By immersing yourself in God's Word, which reformer John Calvin coined as "God's baby talk", God's truth will set you free. It is what is desperately needed for a lost and self consumed human race that left alone, to themselves, will prefer darkness rather than the light because their deeds are evil. Now what are those deeds that cause mankinds separation?? God's Word tells us:
Jesus said "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.” (Mark 7:21-23)
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Cor 6:9-10)
We have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles (pagans, heathen)—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, (strong craving or desire usually of a sexual nature) drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. (1 Peter 4:1-3)
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Gal 5:19-21)
We are not sinners because we sin. We sin because we are sinners. We were born that way (Ps. 51:5) and are by our very nature at enmity with God. (Rom 8:7-8) Jesus Christ, The Word who was in the beginning with God and was God, The One and Only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth--God the Son gave Himself a ransom for his people. Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. His is the only name under heaven by which anyone can be saved. (Acts 4:12) the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. (John 14:6)
And finally as for EXERCISE: It invigorates not only the body but also the mind. It causes our organs to work harder and grow stronger. It forces the blood to flow faster to revitalize the mind. God gave us a body, use it or as we're told...lose it. Exercise employees muscles, exhilarates organs and activates the body's endorphins allowing peptides to activate the bodys opiate receptors, causing an analgesic effect. Yes exercise gives the body a natural high. It may be work but well worth the effort. (Note: If you haven't exercised in a while (years even) get a check up. Find out if that's OK. Then start easy and work your way up. Don't overdo it.
